Lemons - The Gift From GOD

Lemons are a powerful healing fruit that contain phenomenal antibiotic, antiseptic, and anti-cancer properties. Lemons are rich in vitamins C and B-complex and minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, silicon, copper, and potassium. They are considered to be a wonderful tonic and can help to cleanse and detoxify the entire body

Although lemons have an acidic taste they actually have a very strong alkaline reaction on the body and can help to alkalize blood, cells, lymph, organs, and tissues. Lemons are known to help destroy putrefactive bacteria in the mouth and intestines which can help alleviate flatulence, indigestion, and constipation. Lemons contain a compound called limonene which is used to dissolve gallstones and kidney stones and can help to fight oral, lung, skin, breast, stomach, and colon cancer.

Lemons are also rich in bioflavonoids which can significantly boost the immune system and reduce inflammation in the body. Lemon juice is known to be particularly beneficial for colds, coughs, sore throats, hiccups, ear infections, fevers, arthritis, heart disease, COPD, atherosclerosis, diabetes, high cholesterol, autoimmune disorders, stroke, and cancer. Topically, lemon juice is a great remedy for wrinkles, warts, toothaches, corns, sunburns, poison ivy, acne, psoriasis, and as a hair rinse and facial astringent.

A tall glass of lemon water upon waking is an excellent way to hydrate and cleanse the body first thing in the morning. Fresh lemon in tea and green juice and added to salads, wraps, hummus, guacamole, and nori rolls is another great way to add this healing and nutritious fruit into your diet.

Various ways to use Lemons

Lemons are a vital part of your kitchen

Lemon Water

Lemon water is the perfect way to hydrate, purify, and revitalize your body each morning. Water coming straight from the tap or a bottle has lost its vitality and its innate living structure. By adding fresh squeezed lemon juice, you “wake up” the water and bring it back to life. This allows it to travel more deeply into your tissues and cells and carry the essential nutrients and compounds you need in order to thrive.

Lemon water is a good source of vitamins C and B and minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Lemon water is excellent for weight loss, the immune system, alkalizing the body, controlling high blood pressure, anti-aging, detoxification, purifying the blood, and regulating body temperature. Lemon water is particularly beneficial for the digestive tract and can help relieve constipation, nausea, and even parasites.

Lemon water is also good for the cardiovascular and muscular system making it an ideal drink before and after exercise. Consider an early morning ritual of squeezing half a lemon into 16oz (or more) of your best quality purified water upon waking. This deep form of hydration will awaken your mind and energize your body for the day.

Lemon/lime water has the added benefit of helping to break up any sediment and stones in the gallbladder, allowing for bile production in the liver to increase, hydrochloric acid levels in the gut to rise, and reduction of the bad acids that cause acid reflux.

How do I make lemon water?

Lemon Water FAQ

Can I use lime instead of lemon?

Yes, you can use lime instead of lemon.

Should I drink lemon water before or after celery juice?

You can drink it either before or after celery juice. If drinking lemon water first, wait 15-30 minutes before drinking celery juice. If drinking celery juice first, wait 15-30 minutes before drinking lemon water.

What is the best time of day to drink lemon water?

Drinking it anytime is helpful, but first thing in the morning is especially effective for cleansing your liver, which works while you sleep to gather and purge toxins from your body. When you wake up, it’s ideal to hydrate and flush these toxins out with this activated living lemon water.

Can I drink it later in the day?

Yes, it is great any time of day. Try adding lemon water into your daily routine. You can do this once a day, twice a day, three times a day or more.

What is the optimal amount of lemon water to drink in a day?

It depends on what else you are drinking or eating. So many people today are chronically dehydrated. You may wish to drink two liters of lemon water every day. In addition to other hydrating drinks like celery juice and cucumber juice, along with lots of fresh fruits, leafy greens and vegetables. Each person’s needs are different when it comes to hydration. An avid exerciser or someone with chronic illness or symptoms might want to bring more lemon water into their daily routine plus eat more fresh fruit throughout the day. The Liver Rescue Mornings in Liver Rescue are a great way to set yourself up to properly hydrate.

Can I use lemon essential oil instead of fresh lemon?

Only the living water in freshly squeezed lemon holds the life-giving nutrients that will cleanse and replenish your body and keep you hydrated.

Can I make lemon water in advance?

It’s best to drink lemon water immediately after preparing it. But if you have to make it in advance, you can seal it in a mason jar with a lid and store it in the fridge. If doing so, be sure to drink it within 24 hours.

Does lemon water need to be consumed on an empty stomach?

No, it does not. It is particularly beneficial first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (followed by celery juice 15 to 30 minutes later if possible), but it is wonderful to drink any time of day, with or without food.

Fresh lemon kills the bad bacteria in your mouth that causes tooth decay. They may taste acidic but they are highly alkalizing in your mouth and body.

Is lemon water okay for acid reflux?

Yes, lemon water is helpful for acid reflux as it destroys the unproductive bacteria that causes acid reflux.

Can I just add lemon water to my celery juice instead of having two separate drinks?

Celery juice works best on its own as just straight celery juice with nothing else. Adding any other ingredients to the juice will dilute its medicinal properties.

Can I have apple cider vinegar in water instead of lemon water?

No, apple cider vinegar is extremely acidic and it pickles the liver. The liver cells struggle to stay balanced and perform as they fight for oxygen, because vinegar steals oxygen from the bloodstream and the liver. ACV (like any vinegar) comes into the stomach extremely acidic. The liver must put a halt to it immediately and use its every reserve to try to alkalize or at least neutralize it. The ACV fights back, and its acidic nature is so strong that the stomach loses the battle many times over. Instead of alkalizing your gut, it does the opposite. It weakens hydrochloric acid and breaks down gastric juices and heads down the pike still acidic. It’s basically an assault on the stomach and intestinal tract. For more information on the effects of apple cider vinegar on the liver, see my book Liver Rescue.

Is lemon water bad for your teeth?

Lemon water is not bad for your teeth, it’s the opposite!
Lemons are amazing for the teeth and gums. When you hear dentists or other health professionals saying “don’t do lemon water” it’s mind-boggling. Think about it: how much lemon is realistically in people’s diets compared to other teeth destroying substances like vinegar, coffee and chocolate? Think about the sailors on the ocean who were on year long journeys—they would get scurvy and their teeth and gums would disease and rot quickly. Why? Because they didn’t have vitamin C and trace minerals that lemons or other citrus have. A lemon tree sends its roots deep into the Earth, grabbing onto alkaline rich minerals such as calcium.

Can I use store bought lemon juice?

It's best to freshly squeeze the lemon juice yourself. Lemon juice oxidizes very quickly once you juice it and will no longer have the vital living nutrients once it’s bottled. Also, most lemon juices in bottles that you buy from a store will have preservatives added.

Lemons & Limes: Liver Flushers

The roots of lemon and lime trees go deep into the earth, extracting dozens of precious trace minerals that get passed onto you when you consume the fruits. Lemons and limes are ultra-hydrating and electrolyte-producing, because they are a top source of mineral salts and trace mineral salts.

These citrus siblings have some of the most highly absorbable vitamin C around. Fresh-squeezed lemon or lime offers bioactive calcium that your body craves. Plus, phytochemicals called limonoids in lemons and limes actually bond the vitamin C and calcium together, so that wherever one goes in the body, the other rides along. This enhances the bioavailability of each, and also creates alkalinity in the body to help prevent the growth of almost every type of cancer.

The antioxidant flavonoids in lemons and limes are another ally in fighting disease. And when you’re dealing with a cold, flu, bronchitis, or pneumonia, lemon is one of the most effective mucus expellers you can find. Lemons and limes are also amazing cleansers of the liver, kidneys, spleen, thyroid, and gallbladder. They purge the many toxic substances we collect from exposure to plastics, synthetic chemicals, radiation, and poor food choices.

When going through any sort of detox process, even if it’s just increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet, it’s a good idea to drink lemon or lime water first thing in the morning. Lemon or lime water is more beneficial for this process than plain water, because filtration has often taken the life out of drinking water, and these citrus stars reawaken its healing abilities.

How To Use:

Drink 2-4 glasses of Lemon or Lime Water every day upon waking. Use lemons and limes as salad dressing, in fresh juices and smoothies. Squeeze lemon or lime juice on top of fruit bowls, steamed vegetables, or any other meal.

Highly recommended:

Refreshing Lemonades

many great ways to incorporate lemons into your diet

This hibiscus lemonade is just as gorgeous as it is delicious.

Fresh, fragrant and sweet, it’s hard to beat the wonderful flavor of this Rosemary Lemonade!

This colorful twist on traditional lemonade offers an abundance of antioxidants and healing!

Deeply refreshing and hydrating lemonade is a delicious and nutritious drink

Hibiscus Lemonade

It’s the perfect show-stopping beverage for your next gathering, and it’s also simple enough to enjoy anytime. Try freezing it into ice cubes and keeping them on hand to make a beautiful hibiscus-infused water on demand.

In Liver Rescue, I share how each of these ingredients can support you and your loved ones in healing. Let’s take a look…

Hibiscus: The unique anthocyanin compound that gives hibiscus its red coloring helps rejuvenate the liver, bringing it back to life by cleaning mucus off cell membrane walls and improving the liver’s ability to perform its responsibilities. This herb is also a gallbladder rejuvenator—it cleans off gallbladder walls—and improves the liver’s personalized immune system.

Lemons (and limes): Improve hydrochloric acid production as well as bile production and potency. Contain micro mineral salts that break down pathogens such as unproductive bacteria, mold, yeast, and fungus to help protect your liver’s immune system. The rich calcium levels in lemons and limes binds to the vitamin C within them, and both of these enter into the liver, where they waken a stagnant, sluggish, fatty liver, helping loosen and disperse fat cells. Lemons and limes clean up dirty blood syndrome, improve glucose absorption, and even protect the pancreas.

Raw honey: Contains a combination of sugar that the liver needs desperately and vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients— hundreds of which are not on the record with medical research and science. Honey is antimicrobial: antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, all packaged into one. When it heads to the liver in its broken down, assimilated state, it packs a punch, giving the liver everything it needs at once: the liver’s immune system strengthens instantly. The liver lobules and cells get the fuel they need instantly. And hundreds of phytochemicals from the flowers that bees once harvested for pollen intoxicate the liver in a euphoric, healthy way, giving the liver the reprieve it needs to fight for us another day.

Hibiscus Lemonade

How do I make Hibiscus lemonade?

Ingredients:

    Ingredients:

    4 cups water, divided

2 teaspoons dried hibiscus (see Tips)

    ½ cup fresh lemon juice

4 tablespoons raw honey (see Tips)

Directions:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining 3 cups of water with the lemon juice and honey until the honey has completely dissolved and a smooth lemonade has formed. When the hibiscus tea has cooled, stir it into the lemonade base and enjoy!

Tips:

* Store-bought tea bags can be used as well when loose dried hibiscus is not available. Use 1 hibiscus tea bag in place of 1 teaspoon of dried hibiscus.

* Alternatively, maple syrup can be used in place of honey. Start by using 3 tablespoons of maple syrup and adjust until the desired sweetness is reached.

* The recipe above is for a beautiful, light lemonade that anyone can enjoy. If you’re looking for even more medicinal benefits, try using up to 2 more tablespoons of dried hibiscus for a stronger hibiscus lemonade with a powerfully tart flavor

Rosemary Lemonade

This recipe is made only with clean, healing ingredients, and can be enjoyed as much and as often as you’d like!

Rosemary specializes in fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria, such as those that take hold in hospitals. Bringing this herb into your diet is a game changer if you’re dealing with the sorts of bacteria (such as C. difficile and multi-drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA) that can result in conditions such as megacolon, severe infection, and worse.

The rich calcium levels in lemons and limes bind to the vitamin C within them, and both of these enter into the liver, where they waken a stagnant, sluggish, fatty liver, helping loosen and disperse fat cells. Lemons and limes clean up dirty blood syndrome, improve glucose absorption, and even protect the pancreas.

Wild Blueberry Lemonade

The addition of the most healing food on the planet—wild blueberries, plus raw honey, and fresh lemon juice instead of preserved or pasteurized lemon juice, makes for a deeply healing and delicious drink. It’s also a delight for the eyes that is fun to serve at any family or social gatherings!

As I share in my book Thyroid Healing, “wild blueberries help restore the central nervous system and flush EBV neurotoxins out of the liver. They contain exceptionally powerful antioxidants that help repair your thyroid’s tissue and reduce the growth of nodules. They help remove toxic heavy metals from the brain and liver. Ultimately, this all means that wild blueberries stop a shrinking brain and a shrinking thyroid. Not to be confused with their larger, cultivated cousins, wild blueberries can be found in the freezer section of many grocery stores.”

Ingredients:

    8oz wild blueberry juice

2oz fresh lemon juice (about 1-2 lemons)

2 Tablespoons raw honey or maple syrup

    2-4 oz water

    Ice, to serve

2 tbsp fresh blueberries, to serve

    2 lemon slices, to serve

Directions:

Squeeze the fresh lemons and add the raw honey to the lemon juice, stirring until the raw honey or maple syrup is fully dissolved. Mix in the wild blueberry juice and water and stir. Add ice, fresh blueberries and lemon slices if desired. Serve immediately or keep in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Serves: 1-2

Barley Grass Juice Lemonade

This deeply refreshing and hydrating lemonade is enriched with barley grass juice powder, bringing extra antioxidant and nutrient support to this delicious drink. Barley grass juice powder comes from the tender green shoots of barley grass, which are then juiced, which is the only way I recommend consuming it, versus having just barley grass powder that isn’t juiced. Barley grass juice powder is also naturally gluten-free. This is a fantastic lemonade to share or to make for yourself to sip on over the day.

Barley Grass Juice Lemonade

Ingredients:

2-3 tsp barley grass juice powder

½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

½ cup pure maple syrup

4 cups cold water

3-4 cups ice, to serve

Directions:

Combine the barley grass juice powder, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cold water in a pitcher. Whisk or stir until evenly mixed. Top with ice and serve.

Serves 2-4
